If you've been looking into the Kajabi app, you've probably heard some mixed messages about what it is, what it costs, and whether you need it. That confusion comes down to the fact that there isn't a single Kajabi app. There are several of them.

Yes. Every Kajabi user, on any plan, gets a free app that lets your clients and customers open your courses, coaching, and membership products from their phone or tablet. Your clients can access everything you sell on mobile without you paying anything extra.

However, when Kajabi markets "the app," it often means the branded app, which is a separate paid product.

What Is the Kajabi App?

Let's take a closer look at the different types of the Kajabi app.

The Kajabi Member App

The member app is the free app your students and clients download to access what they've bought from you. They install the Kajabi app, log in, and can then watch lessons, join your community, get push notifications, and more.

This app is free for everyone on Kajabi, and it appears under Kajabi's branding. You can't customize it with your own branding.

Even so, I use the member app to make access simple for my clients' customers. In the initial purchase-success automations I build, I add links to the Kajabi member app in both the Apple App Store and Google Play, so a new buyer knows right away how to reach their materials.

When an audience is less comfortable with apps, some clients go further with a short training video that walks people through opening their course and coaching content inside the free member app.

The Kajabi Creator App

The creator app is for you, not your audience. It lets you check in on your business from your phone, so you can view sales, read notifications, and reply to community posts and comments while you're away from your laptop.

Practically speaking, you can't use this app for creating and editing your courses, funnels, emails, and pages. It's more for keeping you in the loop and quick tasks.

The Kajabi Branded App

The branded app is the paid version, and it's the one Kajabi usually means when it talks about "the app." Instead of your audience opening a Kajabi-branded app and logging in, you get your own app in the Apple App Store and Google Play, listed under your name and logo with no visible Kajabi connection.

It gives your members the same access to your products but wrapped in your brand. Because it's your own listing, people can search for you by name and find you in the app store. The branded app is a paid add-on to your plan, and it comes with a few extra setup costs beyond that, too.

Kajabi Member App vs Branded App: What's the Difference?

The member app and the branded app are similar in a sense that they both get your products onto your audience's devices. However, there are differences when it comes to branding, cost, and control.

With the free member app, your audience downloads the Kajabi app and logs in to reach your content. They're inside a Kajabi-branded app, and they find it by searching for Kajabi, not you, in the Apple App Store or Google Play.

With the branded app, you pay for your own app in the Apple App Store and Google Play, listed under your name and logo. Members search for your business and download your app. There's no Kajabi branding. 

You also get options the shared app doesn't offer, like custom home and onboarding screens, custom links, and push notifications.

What Is the Kajabi App Used For?

Here's what each Kajabi app does:

• The member app is for your audience to open and use what they've bought, including courses, coaching, and community.
• The creator app is for you to keep tabs on your business away from your desk, often for tasks like checking sales and replying to activity.

Out of all three apps, the branded app is the only paid product. The member and creator apps are both free.

Should You Consider the Branded Kajabi App?

Maybe. That depends on what you want the app to do.

If you're happy for people to access your content on their phones, the free member app already covers that, and you don't pay anything extra. Mobile access comes standard on every plan.

The branded app makes sense when you want your brand on your audience's home screen, and especially when you want your app to bring in revenue through in-app sales and push notifications. For many entrepreneurs on Kajabi, the branded app is a nice-to-have rather than a need.

The branded app also comes with costs beyond the Kajabi add-on.

To publish in the app stores, you need an Apple Developer account and a Google Play Developer account, and each has its own fee. Kajabi's support walks you through the full setup, which has a fair few steps and rules about what your app can and can't include.
